Night of Knives

The island of Malaz gave a great empire its name, but its city has become a sleepy backwater port. Tonight that changes: a Shadow Moon is rising, a once-in-a-generation convergence that brings demon hounds and darker things onto the streets. It is also prophesied that the long-absent Emperor Kellanved will return this night, and there are those who would stop him at any cost. Caught up in the events are Kiska, a young woman desperate to escape the island, and Temper, a weary veteran trying to outrun his past, each with a part to play in a night that will shape the fate of the Empire.
